Nathan Fillion, Tom Hanks, and game shop nerds.

CROWN ME, CASTLE: TV series Castle is so popular, as soon as the latest season ended, TV1 began screening repeats to fill the gap until season five begins. Lead actor Nathan Fillion is a known geek, good guy and prankster, as this cute video on his whosay.com page reveals.

HANKSY PANKY: Tom Hanks is another Hollywood funster; in the course of promoting Cloud Atlas, he made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to do a “slam poem” about, ah, Full House. Hanks is known as a collector of … typewriters. Yes. He was recently lured onto the Nerdist podcast with the gift of a typewriter – Chris Hardwick writes about it here. Hanks discussed collecting them on Jonathan Ross’s show in 2008 (about three-and-a-half minutes in).

NERD FUN 1: The Nerdist has become one of American’s top podcasts and the website nerdist.com now fields 22 podcasts in all, including Mary Lynn Rajskub’s Kickin’ It Mary Lynn Style, and Mission Log: A Roddenberry Star Trek Podcast. Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist is the grandaddy, in which he talks to directors, comedians, actors and many other creative types. Warning: a bit sweary and he can faff around.

NERD FUN 2: Start is a new YouTube channel especially for gamers and nerds and it has launched a web series called Game Shop, set in a … game shop. You may recognise Brea Grant from Heroes (she was the speedy one).

FOODIE FUN: Food Hub (foodhub.co.nz) brings together recipes and information from the New Zealand Herald, the Herald on Sunday, the NZ Woman’s Weekly, Simply You Living, APN’s regional newspapers and the Listener’s own Lauraine Jacobs and Lois Daish in one handy place.

CLEVER KITTEH: Never mind those cute cats doing cute cat stuff, how about a cute animated one? Mr Cat is a clever fable about how a YouTube sensation is born.
