The words to use on your CV, if you want to be utterly unremarkable

by Toby Manhire / 23 December, 2013
LinkedIn lists the most overused self-descriptions deployed in profiles.
It's nice to be responsible, but frankly it's all a bit boring.

That word – “responsible” – is the most frequently deployed of all the self-descriptions in profiles at the professional-networking site LinkedIn, and twice as prolific as the next, “strategic”.

The full top-ten “most overused buzzwords in members’ profiles” in 2013, as revealed in a LinkedIn blog post:

1. Responsible

2. Strategic

3. Reactive

4. Effective

5. Patient

6. Expert

7. Organisational

8. Driven

9. Innovative

10. Analytical

More instructive, perhaps, are the words that have fallen out of the top 10.

The four that appeared 2012 but no longer are these: experimental; motivated; multinational; and specialised.
