Neighbourhood Bistro—Modern Chinese

Our favourite Takapuna restaurant offers thoughtfully executed Chinese food served up by enthusiastic staff. Unlike some mod-Chinese restaurants where authenticity and flavour take a back seat to the design, fit-out and themed cocktails, here you get it all: a dark-wood, gold-splashed two-storey space and food deep in flavour made with a commitment to technique that reflects its creator’s skill and passion. There’s a great craft beer list to complement the sweet and numbing spices; perfectly cooked meats; and hand-made dumplings that illustrate Jason Zhang’s mastery of this cuisine.

A favourite dish
Shuizhu niurou: Angus beef, Sichuan pepper, chilli, garlic and beansprouts.

What it offers
Shared-plate options / Free-range chicken and/or pork / Bar / Takes large groups / Craft beer selection / Good for kids

Hours—L D Tue-Sun
