Music Week

Summer Sonic, Radio New Zealand Concert, noon. This week, Michael Tilson Thomas looks at the watershed works, the ones that caused a revolution in music, beginning with Beethoven's Eroica, which, he says, "challenged accepted notions of music as a kind of decorative background". The other life-changers are Copland and the American Sound (Wednesday); Stravinsky's Rite of Spring (Thursday); and Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony (Friday).

Music Alive, Radio New Zealand Concert, 8.00pm. See out the year with the music of Leonard Bernstein, featuring Helen Medlyn and the NZSO conducted by Xian Zhang.
