TO ROME WITH LOVE
Continuing his European odyssey, Woody Allen’s multi-storied valentine to the City of Love and Italian film is spicy with satire about dreams and fame. The centre holds – just. 3/5

WELCOME ABOARD
Jean Becker (Conversations with My Gardener) with another older man/unlikely pairing transformative drama. This one’s with a teenage girl – not salacious, but predictable – nicely performed but emotionally flat. 2.5/5

LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED
Mamma Mia! in Sorrento – it even has Pierce Brosnan – but Susanne Bier’s attempt to inject relationship drama doesn’t really work, and too many clichés spoil the broth. 2.5/5

QUARTET
A tribute to ageing artists, reliably amusing and anodyne. Maggie Smith headlines this light summer treat. 3/5
