Shakespeare's children; John Oliver on Brexit; and SVOD highlights.

SHAKESPEARE’S CHILDREN: Shakespeare-mad young people the Candle Wasters are about to unleash their latest adaptation upon the world. After making vlogs Nothing Much to Do and Lovely Little Losers, the group have secured some NZ On Air funding for Bright Summer Night, based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, set at a Wellington party. It will be on YouTube from July 8.

LS2716_69_SUP_Bright-Summer-NightBRIT-IN OR OUT: John Oliver, the British host of US TV series Last Week Tonight, has made a typically succinct, sweary job of explaining Brexit. Whether Britain has voted to leave the European Union will be known by June 24, but his rant about the “absolutely insane” idea of leaving and the “innate British desire to tell Europe to go f--- itself” is still worth a look.

SVOD HIGHLIGHT: What’s good in subscription video on demand. TVNZ drives into Top Gear territory with Car Nut Kiwi, which is available at TVNZ OnDemand from July 1. In nicely produced videos, Blu Steven gives precise and honest car assessments; more info at carnut.kiwi.
