What the hell is Pokémon Go? And what's going on at Gloriavale?
POKÉMON GONE: What the hell is Pokémon Go, you ask, and why are there kids running around your neighbourhood looking for creatures that don’t exist? Only the world’s No 1 app, and the thing that is saving Nintendo, which has seen its shares rise. For once, it’s not a passive video game: players must proceed to a real-world location to “capture” a Pokémon, although this has raised safety concerns. The next step is a Bluetooth device that players can wear, rather than staring at their phones and tripping up on stuff. Gamespot has an informative video for anyone over 20 who just doesn’t get it.
GLORY BE: The Christian community of Gloriavale has captivated our attention ever since a Country Calendar documentary aired in 1982. If you want to catch up before Gloriavale: A Woman’s Place airs on Wednesday, the preceding two documentaries are available on TVNZ OnDemand, along with the Country Calendar doco and some extras. More extras updating Dove’s life will be available after Wednesday.
SVOD HIGHLIGHT: What’s good in subscription video on demand. Ryan Murphy’s twin obsessions of horror and high school come together in perfect harmony in Scream Queens, available on Lightbox. There’s a serial killer on the campus of Wallace University and Kappa Kappa Tau sorority sisters, including Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Ariana Grande and dean Jamie Lee Curtis, are the target.
