How SO/ Auckland will transport you to another world

SO/ Auckland is taking the concept of what a hotel can be and spinning it on its head.

This bold contemporary hotel in downtown Auckland is attracting locals and travellers to its bars, restaurant and spa. SO/ Auckland’s audacious design incorporates the genius of iconic New Zealand fashion house design WORLD and furniture and lighting pieces from renowned Dutch design house, Moooi.

Walking into the entrance of SO/ Auckland is arresting – a carefully composed lighting installation, the Mega Chandelier designed by renowned creative Marcel Wanders for Moooi, is engineered to delight everyone who sees it.

Dutch design house Moooi's sculptural pieces turn the lobby into a creative space.

According to SO/ Auckland General Manager Stephen Gould the chandelier was chosen due to its simple, show-stopping beauty.

The delight doesn't stop there – more playful sculptural pieces by Moooi can be found at MIXO, the ground floor bar, an intimate, avant-garde spot to enjoy a cocktail with a date, or a couple of close friends.

Stop in for a signature MIXO cocktail.

SO/ Auckland is a new kind of hotel; one that banishes impersonal, generic design, and harnesses WORLD's design ethos. Its influences are seen throughout the interior, with volcanic shaped art works in many of the 130 rooms and a neon emblem that illuminates the roof-top bar, HI-SO.

SO/ Auckland signature designer Benny Castles, WORLD's designer and director explains: "The swirling, hypnotic effect feels as though you’re looking directly into the eye of a volcano, reflecting that feeling of stepping into a boutique hotel; a hypnotic experience where the outside world is left behind and a new experience begins.”

WORLD's Benny Castles, SO's signature designer, and the volcanic emblem he designed for rooftop bar HI-SO.

High above the hustle and bustle of the CBD, with panoramic views across the Waitemata Harbour and records spinning, HI-SO is the kind of bon-vivant place for an after-work drink, or evening out with friends.

In a city where a new eatery seems to pop up every minute, SO/ Auckland's food offering, Harbour Society, is refreshing. Overseen by French chef Marc De Passorio, former owner of Michelin-starred restaurant L’Esprit de la Violette, he artfully plates his inventive dishes combining local produce with a French flair.

An entree from the menu at Harbour Society, served with a side of theatrics.

Set on the 15th floor, Auckland has never looked so good, making it a hot spot to bring friends, family and visitors. There is private dining on offer in the 'wine cellar' for special occasions, and a larger room for hosting guests with discernible tastes.

Key to the lifestyle hotel offering is the SO/ Auckland SPA and sleek swimming pool. It offers the latest urban spa treatments such as Himalayan detox therapy, Tibetan sound healing, chakra balancing and peeling Chlorella masks. Whatever the treatment, you'll leave relaxed and revitalised.
