Online commemorations for the great bard Shakespeare.
BARD NEWS: Events commemorating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death have been inventive and numerous in the UK: plays, walks, talks and exhibitions are listed at shakespeare400.org. The London Underground even issued a Shakespeare-themed Tube map (“Tu-be or not Tu-be,” said the Telegraph). In New Zealand, there is the Pop-up Globe, but you don’t have to be in Auckland to listen to the Radio 4 Front Row series Shakespeare’s People, in which actors discuss their favourite character. Judy Dench’s is Lady Macbeth, David Tennant’s is Hamlet.
TALKFEST: The internet is one long gabfest of fans discussing, recapping and criticising their favourite shows, which is probably why the networks are getting on the bandwagon: we’ve had Talking Bad (Breaking Bad), Talking Dead (The Walking Dead) and Thronecast (Game of Thrones), and now there’s Empire B-Side, in which cast member Ta’Rhonda Jones recaps hyper-soap Empire. It’s available on TVNZ OnDemand.
SVOD HIGHLIGHT: What’s good in subscription video on demand. The second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the sitcom created by Tina Fey and her former 30 Rock colleague Robert Carlock, has arrived on Netflix to even more acclaim than the first. “Fudging hysterical,” said Entertainment Weekly.
