Extra tight on cash? Grab a bite at one of Auckland’s cheapest cheap eats.

Bulgogi beef, crisp veges and cheese encased in a savoury pancake is $5 from No 1 Pancake, Cnr Lorne and Wellesley Sts, central city.

Any dum-style biryani is $10 from Tandoori Hutt, 164D Stoddard Rd, Mt Roskill.

Skewers of smoky meat start at $1 each at Gogo Music Cafe, 559 Dominion Rd, Balmoral.

A battered fish burger as big as your head is $7 at Smoky’s, 44B Halsey Rd, Manurewa.

A vegetarian thali with curry, rice, pickles and chapathi is $8 at Venkys, 535 Sandringham Rd, Sandringham.

Allan Jung’s rolls — some of the freshest in town — start at just $1.30 each at Bian Sushi, 183 Symonds St, Eden Terrace.

Vegan momos sit in a moat of sesame-tomato sauce and are $10 a serve at Tama, 4 Upper Queen St, K’ Rd precinct.

Crunchy, fragrant, great on the run — a lemongrass chicken banh mi costs $8.50 from Viet Kitchen, 342 Dominion Rd, Balmoral.

The soothing tamarind and tomato (rasam) soup is less than a fiver — $4.95 — at Satya, 17 Great North Rd, Grey Lynn (also citywide).

Here’s one for the hungry – giant, steamy bowls of soup with more than enough noodles for one at Genzui Ramen upstairs at Atrium on Elliot St, central city. Almost half the options on the menu are $10 or less and there are vegetarian dishes, too.
