Photos: Thousands around NZ take part in Climate Strike

Climate Strike protests take place around New Zealand.

Thousands of New Zealanders took to the streets today to protest the lack of Government action around climate change. They want Parliament to declare a climate emergency. 

In Auckland, the School Strike 4 Climate NZ 'intergenerational strike' has attracted thousands of people, young and old, to Aotea Square, which they then left to march down Queen St.

Sparked by climate activist Greta Thunberg, it's part of an international movement.

School Strike 4 Climate NZ said on Twitter that 170,000 people are protesting nationwide.
